I actually just started getting back into it after getting a new desktop and desk for my room (desktop sucks so I will be getting a new one in December). Iv'e always had this fear of coding from scratch but after doing it a couple times today i found it pretty easy to remember all the stuff although I did look back at a reference and tutorial every now and then. I still don t know much but im slowly beginning to get the hang of the basics. I'd like to share a screenshot of the code for a little calculator I made thanks to a tutorial.

CLICK ME!

Not much but it is something.

So that's pretty much it for now. Well here on Planet Indie we will make it our duty to give you a step by step guide to get you started with game development. We will call this Guide "The Game Developers Survival Guide". So with that said, lets get started shall we.

In Guide #1 we will cover

Planning

Choosing your engine

PLANNING

So the beginning to all development is coming up with an idea in mind that you'd like to pursue. These ideas SHOULD include, Writing your story, Coming up with characters , and picking a setting (date, geography, ect.) With these three essential items, you could be on your way to making your first game. Now,if you are creating an RPG game, where characters must fight then it is up to you to choose what kind of systems you would like in your game such as Battle systems, leveling systems, skill systems and so forth. At this point you may be thinking "Wow this is easy", but trust me, this is where most amateur go completely wrong! Often new developers make the mistake of mapping and making up characters first before planning anything out resulting in an unfinished game or if it does get finished,it is not well though out and very suckish. But thats why your here so lets move on to the next step.

Choosing your engine

There are many engines out there for you to use such as RPG Maker, Game Maker, Unity 3D, and many more. It is up to you to choose what engine would best suit your game. You also have the option of coding one yourself (this will be addressed in a later issue of the guide). Some engines are free and others you must pay for to get full functionality or get rid of a free trial such as RPG Maker which gives you a 30 day free trial, and Game Maker which has a lite version that doesn't have all the functions of the PAYED PRO version. But like i said earlier,it is up to YOU to choose which engine you want to go with.

Well that is it for Issue #1 of "The Game Developers Survival Guide". In the next issue we will address:

Building a TEAM

Making your game UNIQUE

Programming Languages

Final Notes:

________________________________________________________

A downloadable HTML version of the Game Developers Survival Guide will be available for download
Andrew "OzumaDrew" Irvinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15358561705467401262noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4091785856223008999.post-22165206542923589062011-02-23T20:28:00.000-08:002011-02-24T13:54:00.442-08:00Game Jolt!ok so,i would like too announce that ALL my projects will be downloadable from a website called GameJolt!

if you havent heard of it then go check out the site and see for yourself ^_^.

click on the banner below too access the site:

Andrew "OzumaDrew" Irvinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15358561705467401262noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4091785856223008999.post-68090087556029516362011-02-23T19:55:00.001-08:002011-02-24T13:54:17.789-08:00RMXP Breeze Tilesok so while looking for some tiles today i stumbled upon these tiles called "Breeze Tiles". Breeze Tiles are simply AMAZING!!
The style of Breeze is just awesome

here is a screenshot of them in action:

So,i have put together a little pack with almost all of the Tiles, Autotiles,Templates, chipsets,& characters in it. Most of them have transparency so all you have to do is import them to RMXP,but for a large amount of the characters you have to do the transparency on your own.

You can download the pack Here

But if you do not want to download the pack then you can just go to the official site found Here

I will be putting together a little demo later on with all the tile passibilities and characters in it so keep watch ^_^

~OzumaAndrew "OzumaDrew" Irvinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15358561705467401262noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4091785856223008999.post-30549573915013725012011-02-23T19:54:00.001-08:002011-02-24T13:54:29.370-08:00RMXP/VX game icon changerok so while working on my game i had come across a thought.
"Hmm, i wonder if i would be able to change the icon of my project"

well i googled it and YES,you can.
